Afterglow
9”/12” Alcohol ink on aluminium 2026
CA$200
Afterglow captures the fleeting moment when day gives way to evening. Created on aluminum, the work reflects both the physical materiality of flight and the luminous quality of light that defines the experience of being above the landscape. The metallic surface becomes an active participant in the image, catching and reflecting ambient light in much the same way an aircraft wing or window frame responds to the changing sky.
Part of my Passenger Window Series, Afterglow draws on more than twenty-five years spent in aviation, observing the world from above. From this vantage point, familiar geography is transformed into a tapestry of colour, atmosphere, and abstraction. The landscape below becomes less about specific locations and more about the emotional experience of distance, scale, and transience.
In this piece, warm tones linger across the surface like the final traces of sunlight remaining after sunset. Boundaries between land, water, cloud, and sky begin to dissolve, creating a sense of ambiguity that invites contemplation. The composition balances representation and abstraction, encouraging viewers to recall their own memories of travel, reflection, and transition.
Afterglow is ultimately about the beauty of impermanence, the brief, radiant interval between what has passed and what is yet to come. Through colour, light, and the reflective qualities of aluminum, the work seeks to recreate that quiet moment of wonder experienced while looking out a passenger window as the world below slowly fades into twilight.
